About Position/Job
NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in Bronze Age Social & Economic Studies within the Division of Social Science, supervised by Professors Georgi Derluguian and Robert C. Allen. The appointment, beginning September 2026 for up to three years, combines independent research with collaborative work on the Afro-Eurasian world economy during the Bronze Age, focusing on the Arabian desert and Eurasian steppe regions.
Candidates with expertise in ancient technologies, metallurgical experiments with copper, tin, and bronze, GIS mapping, and archaeological fieldwork are encouraged to apply. The position emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration with historical sociologists, economists, and scientific labs at NYUAD and UAE museums. Research Area

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in History, Economic History, Archaeology, Anthropology, or related social sciences
- Knowledge of metallurgical techniques and ancient materials
- Fieldwork experience at archaeological sites
- GIS and spatial analysis skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with museum work or public engagement
- Collaborative research experience with multidisciplinary labs
- Interest in historical sociology and economics
Key Responsibilities
