Postdoctoral Position in Tibetology & Indology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), Germany

About Position/Job

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich) is inviting applications for two postdoctoral positions in Tibetology and Indology. These positions are part of the pioneering project “Inscribing Piety: Patronage and Epigraphic Practices Across the Indian and Tibetan Cultural Worlds.” The project examines the cultural and religious significance of inscriptions across South Asia and the Tibetan cultural sphere, integrating philological, art historical, and digital methodologies.

One postdoctoral researcher will focus on Tibetology, developing a typological framework for Tibetan inscriptions on Buddhist art under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Vincent Tournier and Prof. Dr. Jörg Heimbel. The second position will focus on Indology, working on the expansion and standardisation of the Early Inscriptions of the Deccan digital corpus, integrating archival and epigraphic sources. Both positions are fully funded, interdisciplinary, and offer opportunities for international collaboration and cross-cultural research across Southern India, Tibet, and Nepal, with an anticipated start date of January 2026.
