Newcastle University is accepting applications for the position of Research Assistant / Research Associate (Cultural Heritage Science) in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. This fixed-term, part-time post supports the next phase of the Transforming Access to Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Science Collections project, funded by RICHeS.
The successful candidate will help improve access to digital cultural heritage collections by developing educational resources for schools. The role supports the use of digital humanities and education technology to make heritage science collections more accessible for teachers and students, while contributing to resources that complement the future machine-readable national curriculum.
Working closely with the project team, the post involves developing online learning materials, building partnerships with educators, and promoting the wider use of the project’s digital infrastructure. The successful applicant will also contribute to project dissemination, support future funding applications, and work with technical colleagues to strengthen educational access to heritage science collections.
The project brings together Newcastle University, the British School at Athens, the British Institute at Ankara, and the British School at Rome to improve public access to heritage science collections. Applicants with experience in education technology, UK education, digital humanities, and cultural heritage science will contribute to research that supports teachers, researchers, students, and wider public engagement with digital collections.

- A PhD in Cultural Heritage Science, Education, or a closely related discipline.
- Knowledge of the higher education and research environment.
- Experience of presenting research at conferences and/or publishing in recognised academic journals.
- Experience of contributing to research funding applications and developing research proposals.
