Newcastle University invites applications for a Research Associate in Cultural Heritage Science within the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. This part-time, fixed-term position supports the next phase of the RICHeS-funded Transforming Access to Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Science Collections project. The initiative focuses on developing shared digital research infrastructure to improve access to heritage science collections and support their wider use across research, education and public engagement.
The successful candidate will work with the Principal Investigator and researchers from Newcastle University, the British School at Athens, the British Institute at Ankara and the British School at Rome. The role involves programme management, research coordination, project governance, financial reporting and engagement with project partners to support the delivery of planned activities.
The postholder will coordinate work across participating institutions, track programme developments, assist with communication and outreach activities, and contribute to sharing research outcomes. Responsibilities will also include identifying future funding opportunities, maintaining partnerships across academic, heritage and education sectors, and improving access to cultural heritage science datasets through digital humanities methods.
The role includes contributing to research publications, conference presentations and funding applications while supporting the continued development of heritage science resources. Through improved digital access to Mediterranean cultural heritage science collections, the project will strengthen research connections and support their use across academic and educational settings.

Eligibility / Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:
- Honours degree and a completed PhD in Cultural Heritage Science or a closely related field.
- Knowledge of digital humanities, including machine-readable data and emerging approaches to digital learning.
- Experience managing research programmes, project budgets and collaborative research activities.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use initiative when addressing research challenges.
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively to academic and non-academic audiences.
- Experience preparing research publications, conference presentations or other scholarly outputs.
- Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in standard office applications.
- Good understanding of the wider research environment and collaborative research practice.
