About the Position
La Trobe University invites applications for a fixed-term Research Fellow role in ecological modelling and remote sensing. Based at the Albury-Wodonga Campus, this opportunity places you at the forefront of environmental monitoring and conservation, focusing on the alpine peatlands of the Australian Alps. You’ll join two dynamic research groups—Biogeochemistry and Ecotoxicology, and Biodiversity and Ecology—working under the guidance of leading scientists Prof. Ewen Silvester, Dr Aleicia Holland, and Dr Michael Shackleton. This role is ideal for a motivated researcher passionate about integrating Earth observation systems with ecological data to develop innovative real-time monitoring tools. The role includes both high-impact desk-based research and fieldwork across unique Australian landscapes.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctorate in ecological modelling, remote sensing, machine learning, or related field
- Strong publication or technical contribution record
- Advanced data analysis and programming skills (e.g. Python, R)
- Experience working with large spatiotemporal datasets
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in alpine environments
- Valid driver’s licence
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in spatial modelling and Earth observation
- Experience developing data visualisation tools or apps
- Familiarity with hydrological data and time-series analysis
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently
Key Responsibilities
