About the Position
The Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge invites applications for a full-time Teaching Associate in History and Theory of Architecture and Design. This temporary post runs from 1 October 2025 to 31 August 2026, and offers a unique opportunity to teach in one of the world’s leading academic environments. Candidates will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, thesis supervision, and studio work, particularly within the socio-political dimensions of architectural history and theory.
The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Flora Samuel (Head of Department) and the MArch Course Leaders, coordinating elements of the Master of Architecture programme. They will also lead optional undergraduate courses, deliver seminars and lectures, and supervise dissertations, with additional college remuneration for supervision. This post is ideal for candidates nearing or recently completing a PhD in architectural theory or a closely related field. Applicants must demonstrate a strong record in university-level teaching, course design, and pedagogical innovation that enriches student learning. The role is based in central Cambridge, within the historic Faculty of Architecture and History of Art.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD (completed or near completion) in architecture, design theory, or related field
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and course development
- Experience delivering lectures, seminars, and supervision at university level
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in socio-political or critical theory in architecture
- Familiarity with MPhil/MArch thesis supervision
- A track record of academic publications
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver undergraduate History and Theory lectures and supervise optional courses
- Provide studio teaching and coordinate MArch programme content
- Supervise and assess undergraduate and MPhil/MArch theses
- Provide minimum 80 hours of supervision (with college remuneration)
- Attend staff meetings, contribute to administration and student feedback
- Support innovation in curriculum design and pedagogy
