About Position/Job

The National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru, is inviting applications for a Principal Scientist position under its Energy, Environment, and Climate Change Program. The selected candidate will work on a prestigious year-long project titled “Circularity for Water-stressed Towns”, focusing on sustainable water management practices for coal-based thermal power stations and urban infrastructure. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BE in Civil/Environmental/Mechanical Engineering with First Class (60% or above)
  • 15 years’ experience in town planning, underground drainage, and sanitation systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of water distribution infrastructure and water-use efficiency
  • Proficiency in Kannada (for local official interactions)
  • Experience writing town-planning project reports and technical data analysis
  • Retired professionals below the age of 65 are encouraged to apply

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess water quality needs for thermal power stations in Raichur
  • Analyze water withdrawal and use efficiency patterns
  • Evaluate STP capacity and recommend augmentations
  • Conduct field visits to Raichur and collaborate with local officials
  • Prepare technical reports and milestone-based deliverables
