About Position/Job

The National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru, is inviting applications for a Principal Scientist position under its Energy, Environment, and Climate Change Program. The selected candidate will work on a prestigious year-long project titled “Circularity for Water-stressed Towns”, focusing on sustainable water management practices for coal-based thermal power stations and urban infrastructure. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

BE in Civil/Environmental/Mechanical Engineering with First Class (60% or above)
15 years’ experience in town planning, underground drainage, and sanitation systems

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of water distribution infrastructure and water-use efficiency
Proficiency in Kannada (for local official interactions)
Experience writing town-planning project reports and technical data analysis
Retired professionals below the age of 65 are encouraged to apply

Key Responsibilities

Assess water quality needs for thermal power stations in Raichur
Analyze water withdrawal and use efficiency patterns
Evaluate STP capacity and recommend augmentations
Conduct field visits to Raichur and collaborate with local officials
Prepare technical reports and milestone-based deliverables
