About Position/Job
The National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru, is inviting applications for a Principal Scientist position under its Energy, Environment, and Climate Change Program. The selected candidate will work on a prestigious year-long project titled “Circularity for Water-stressed Towns”, focusing on sustainable water management practices for coal-based thermal power stations and urban infrastructure. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BE in Civil/Environmental/Mechanical Engineering with First Class (60% or above)
- 15 years’ experience in town planning, underground drainage, and sanitation systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of water distribution infrastructure and water-use efficiency
- Proficiency in Kannada (for local official interactions)
- Experience writing town-planning project reports and technical data analysis
- Retired professionals below the age of 65 are encouraged to apply
Key Responsibilities
- Assess water quality needs for thermal power stations in Raichur
- Analyze water withdrawal and use efficiency patterns
- Evaluate STP capacity and recommend augmentations
- Conduct field visits to Raichur and collaborate with local officials
- Prepare technical reports and milestone-based deliverables
