About Position/Job

Centro Nacional de Investigación sobre la Evolución Humana (CENIEH) is seeking a Research Fellow in Palaeolithic Archaeology to apply for the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions Individual Fellowships call (HORIZON-MSCA-2025-PF-01-01). The selected fellow will work in CENIEH’s Archaeology Program, focusing on the Acheulean and Middle Stone Age periods. This research will involve field and laboratory work at significant African archaeological sites such as Gona (Ethiopia) and Tighennif (Algeria), studying the origins and evolution of lithic technology.

Research Area

  • Lithic technology evolution during the Pleistocene

  • Integration of archaeological, geochronological, and paleoenvironmental data

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Archaeology or related field
  • Expertise in African Stone Age archaeology, particularly Acheulean and MSA
  • Proven experience in lithic analysis and fieldwork
  • Knowledge of raw material and experimental knapping (preferred)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research on the transition from Acheulean to MSA
  • Analyze lithic assemblages with quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Lead and participate in fieldwork at major African archaeological sites
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and publish results
  • Present findings at international conferences
