About the Program
Leiden University’s Faculty of Archaeology invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on reconstructing mobility in Late Prehistoric Cyprus (4000–1700 BCE). This exciting doctoral project is part of the European Research Council-funded Inequal Cyprus project, which explores how social inequalities became consolidated in early complex societies. Using advanced isotope analysis techniques (Strontium and Oxygen isotopes), the successful candidate will investigate prehistoric migration patterns and their relation to emerging social hierarchies.
Working closely with leading experts in bio-archaeology and isotope studies, this PhD offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment. The program provides access to state-of-the-art laboratories, rich archaeological datasets, and collaboration opportunities in Cyprus and the Netherlands. It is ideal for motivated researchers with a passion for prehistory, mobility studies, and scientific archaeology.
