About the Position
The University of Cologne invites applications for a Researcher (f/m/x) role contributing to a new international Master’s programme in Climate Science, part of the IDEA-S4S (Italia-Deutschland Science-4-Services) cooperation between Germany and Italy. This full-time position is based at the University of Cologne and will support joint academic activities with the University of Bonn and University of Bologna. The successful candidate will develop innovative, research-led teaching in climate science with a focus on machine learning applications. Fieldwork, joint summer schools, and interdisciplinary teaching formats form a key part of this programme. The role also involves international collaboration, supporting joint theses, and developing ERASMUS exchange activities. Supervision will be coordinated under Prof. Dr Susanne Crewell and Prof. Dr Jürgen Kusche, with the position funded until 30 September 2030.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Completed Master’s degree in earth system sciences, meteorology, physics, computer science, machine learning, or related field
- Strong communication skills in German and English
- Proactive and structured working style
- Academic teaching experience in a relevant field
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in a relevant discipline
- Experience in interdisciplinary and international academic environments
- Interest in shaping international teaching formats
- Team-oriented and flexible attitude
Key Responsibilities
- Develop research-led teaching materials in emerging climate science topics
- Conduct collaborative block courses with Italian institutions
- Design and support joint bachelor’s and master’s theses
- Contribute to curriculum development for the new Climate Science MSc programme
- Participate in exchange and summer school programmes
- Conduct independent research in areas such as cloud physics, hydrology, or system modelling
