Fully Funded PhD Position in Earth Sciences (Coastal Geomorphology) at Utrecht University – Fully Funded Opportunity

About the Program

Utrecht University invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Decadal Coastal Dune Development, housed within the Faculty of Geosciences. This four-year research opportunity explores the long-term evolution of coastal dunes shaped by interactions between vegetation, wind, and sand. The project focuses on the Dutch coastline and aims to improve predictive modelling for future dune development using tools like remote sensing and the AeoLiS model. Supervised by Dr Christa van IJzendoorn, the PhD researcher will analyse extensive datasets, apply numerical models, and contribute to nature-based solutions in coastal management. The position combines scientific research with professional development, including training and limited teaching responsibilities, making it a strong foundation for an academic or applied research career.
