The University of Gothenburg invites applications for a Research Assistant in Archaeology with a focus on Comparative Analysis of Late Bronze Age Art and Digital Artefact Recording. Based in the Department of Historical Studies, this short-term 3-month full-time role begins on 1 October 2025. The successful candidate will work within the project Tracing Carvers on the Rocks, led by Professor Johan Ling, and contribute to innovative research on Late Bronze and Iron Age visual culture across Britain and Scandinavia. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Archaeology or related discipline with research experience in Later Prehistory
- Specialist knowledge of Late Bronze Age and Iron Age art
- Proven expertise in artefact photography, RTI, 3D documentation, and photogrammetry
- Experience in database design and management (Microsoft Access, QGIS)
- Strong organisational and independent working skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Peer-reviewed publications in Later Prehistoric archaeology
- Public engagement or community archaeology experience
- Familiarity with the UK Portable Antiquities Scheme dataset
Key Responsibilities
- Record and analyse Late Bronze and Iron Age artefacts from museum collections
- Carry out photography, RTI, and 3D documentation for research and publication
- Manage artefact data in relational databases
- Process and prepare digital images for dissemination
- Assist with literature reviews and contribute to academic publications
- Support public engagement and prepare visual materials for talks and exhibitions
