About the Position

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) invites applications for the position of Project Associate-I in Archaeology and Geochronology. The role is part of the project “Geochronology and Geoarchaeology of Palaeolithic Sites from Southeast Andhra Pradesh.” Supervised by Dr. Anilkumar Devara (Assistant Research Professor), the research focuses on investigating depositional environments, establishing chronological frameworks, and applying scientific methods to Palaeolithic archaeology. The project integrates archaeology, geology, and laboratory-based analyses, offering candidates practical training in dating techniques and geoarchaeological investigations. The appointment is initially for one year, extendable by another year based on performance. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in interdisciplinary archaeological research while contributing to foundational studies on prehistoric landscapes in India.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

M.A. or M.Sc. in Archaeology, Ancient History, or Culture and Archaeology from a recognised institution
At least 60% marks (or equivalent) from undergraduate level onwards
Minimum 55% marks in both 10th and 12th standards

Preferred Qualifications:

Research or laboratory experience after degree completion
Practical skills in sample preparation, laboratory techniques, and analytical methods
Experience in using scientific equipment and interpreting results
Strong written and spoken English communication skills

Key Responsibilities

Conduct geoarchaeological and geochronological research on Palaeolithic sites
Perform laboratory-based sample preparation and analysis
Contribute to reports and publications in peer-reviewed journals
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of archaeologists, geologists, and scientists
Participate in reconstructing past depositional environments and chronological frameworks
