About the Position
The UCL Institute of Archaeology invites applications for a Research Fellow in Environmental Archaeology, specialising in the Brazilian Northwest Amazon region. This full-time, fixed-term role is part of the prestigious UKRI Voices of Indigenous Amazonia project led by Dr Manuel Arroyo-Kalin, which explores the intersection of archaeology, palaeoecology, and indigenous knowledge systems. The position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with Brazilian scientists, UK partners, and Amazonian communities, contributing to pioneering research on the environmental history of the Amazon basin. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Archaeology, Earth Science, Geography, Palaeoecology, or Human Ecology (or near completion within six months).
- Proven expertise in laboratory and field-based environmental archaeology.
- Experience with South American lowland archaeology or palaeoecology.
- Willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork in the Amazon basin.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to work across interdisciplinary subdisciplines.
- Experience collaborating with international research teams.
- Strong publication record and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field and laboratory research in the Brazilian Northwest Amazon region.

- Analyse environmental archaeological and palaeoecological samples.
- Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through publications, presentations, and outreach.
