About the Position
The University of Oslo invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher within the ERC-funded project “Amber Worlds: A Geological Anthropology for the Anthropocene (AMBER)”. Hosted at the Department of Social Anthropology, this interdisciplinary project investigates how amber — a fossil resin with both commercial and scientific value — connects human societies to geological processes across time and place. Under the supervision of Professor Thorgeir Kolshus, the research focuses on sites in Myanmar, China, Lebanon, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Sicily, examining extraction, trade, and scientific practices. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to engage in ethnographic fieldwork, contribute to Anthropocene research, and collaborate within a global team of scholars studying human–Earth relations.
