About Position/Job
Oriel College, University of Oxford, is inviting applications for a Lecturer in Ancient History (Greek and/or Roman) for a 14-month fixed-term position covering leave. This joint College and Faculty role combines delivering 16 lectures per year for the Faculty of Classics with 8 tutorial contact hours per week during term time, split between Oriel College and Jesus College. The successful candidate will also act as the Main Organising Tutor, overseeing both academic and pastoral support for students studying classical archaeology and ancient history. This role offers a chance to engage with interdisciplinary teaching, foster close student supervision, and contribute to Oxford’s renowned classical studies programme.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctorate in Ancient History or a closely related field
- Experience in tutorial teaching and lecturing
- Ability to manage student pastoral care
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in interdisciplinary teaching methods
- Knowledge of classical archaeology
- Experience in collaborative research or teaching
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 16 lectures per year for the Faculty of Classics
- Provide 8 tutorial contact hours per week (5 at Oriel College, 3 at Jesus College)
- Act as Main Organising Tutor for tuition and pastoral care
- Organise student learning and provide academic guidance
