About Position/Job
The Center for European and Mediterranean Studies (CEMS) at New York University invites applications for a Faculty Fellow position in Mediterranean Studies. The appointment begins September 1, 2026, initially for one year and renewable annually for up to three years. This role seeks scholars with research and teaching expertise in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, specializing in comparative politics, anthropology, sociology, or modern history. Candidates should have a strong focus on migration, human rights, social and economic development, climate change, populism, and European Union relations. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Ph.D. completed between January 2021 and 1 August 2026
- Demonstrated experience in research and teaching in Mediterranean Studies
- Ability to advise graduate and undergraduate student research
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interdisciplinary scholarship experience
- Strong student mentorship and advising skills
- Experience organizing seminars or academic events
Key Responsibilities
- Teach three courses per year (graduate and/or undergraduate), including research methods seminars
- Advise master’s theses and undergraduate honors projects
- Organize Mediterranean-focused events, including seminars with external scholars
- Represent the Center at university events and committee meetings
- Contribute to interdisciplinary scholarship and program development
