About Position/Job

The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine campus, invites applications for a Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Archaeology with a specialisation in Caribbean Archaeology. This full-time academic role offers the opportunity to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise research projects, conduct fieldwork, and contribute to the Department of History and Archaeology’s mission of academic excellence. Candidates will work closely with faculty to maintain the Archaeology Centre and participate in interdisciplinary research, outreach initiatives, and curriculum development. The position demands strong research skills, experience in archaeological fieldwork, and a commitment to student-focused teaching, inclusivity, and academic leadership. PhD holders in Archaeology or Anthropology are eligible for the Lecturer level.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology from a recognised university
  • Teaching experience in Caribbean Archaeology
  • Record of research and publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience in archaeological fieldwork
  • Expertise in artefact management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Archaeology or Anthropology
  • Specialisation in Caribbean Archaeology
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision
  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Curriculum development and course design experience
  • Competency with online/blended learning technologies

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Archaeology with emphasis on the Caribbean
  • Plan and conduct archaeological fieldwork
  • Supervise postgraduate research projects
