About the Position

This Postdoctoral Position in Palaeomagnetism at the University of Montpellier offers a valuable opportunity to investigate the Earth’s magnetic field during the Meso-Neoproterozoic period (~1100–535 Ma) using advanced single-crystal paleointensity techniques. Based at Géosciences Montpellier, this full-time, two-year, Horizon Europe-funded role provides access to one of France’s newest ultra-sensitive quantum magnetometers, enabling high-precision analysis of ancient magnetic signals. The project focuses on generating new paleointensity data and assessing possible biases between whole-rock and single-crystal methods. The position builds on an extensive existing rock sample collection, with the possibility of participating in international palaeomagnetic expeditions. This research is central to understanding long-term geodynamo behaviour and supports the department’s commitment to innovative Earth science research.
