About the Position

The University of Bremen invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Public Anthropology – Culture in Practice and Transfer, beginning 1 April 2026 or earlier. This full-time, fixed-term post is based within Faculty 9 – Cultural Studies, in the Institute of Anthropology and Cultural Research, working closely with the Working Group of Public Anthropology led by Prof. Dr Nasima Selim. The role offers a unique opportunity for an emerging scholar to deepen their academic profile through independent research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaborations in fields such as Environmental Humanities, Cultural Anthropology, and ethnographic research. This position is funded for three years, with extension possible under specific qualification conditions.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed PhD (or final stage of doctoral studies) in Public Anthropology, Environmental Humanities, or closely related fields
  • University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Social and Cultural Anthropology
  • Excellent knowledge of anthropological theory and ethnographic methods
  • Experience in teaching and supervising students
  • Strong English and German language skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in disciplines such as biology, environmental sciences, STS, sociology, political science, public health, or empirical philosophy
  • Mixed-methods research skills
  • Experience with social engagement or community-based research projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching up to 4 SWS in BA and MA programmes, including preparing course materials and supervising student assessments
  • Supporting examination organisation and delivery
  • Conducting independent postdoctoral research aligned with Public Anthropology and the Environmental Humanities
  • Contributing to research projects led by the Working Group of Public Anthropology
  • Participating in academic self-administration and departmental activities
