Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- MSc in Biosciences, Archaeology, or equivalent vocational experience
- Experience in managing archaeological or heritage science collections
- Strong knowledge of scientific methods in archaeology
- Proven skills with a range of laboratory instrumentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to interpret and evaluate scientific data
- Budget management experience
- Professional registration (RSci or HEA)
Preferred Qualifications:
- IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
- Experience training staff and postgraduate students
- Knowledge of sector-standard conservation practices
Key Responsibilities
- Manage archaeological, biological and heritage science collections
- Oversee laboratory instrumentation and ensure safe working practices
- Train academic staff and postgraduate students
- Provide guidance on sample preparation and scientific methodology
- Manage facility bookings, finances and cost recovery
- Maintain data curation systems and sector-standard ethical record keeping
- Support grant applications with accurate usage estimates
- Ensure COSHH, risk assessments and safety documentation compliance
- Contribute to service improvements and equipment upgrades
- Liaise with Facilities Governance and Technical Operations Teams
- Write scientific documentation and equipment specifications
