About the Program

The Doctoral/PhD Fellowship in History and Theory of Architecture at ETH Zürich offers an exciting opportunity for junior researchers to undertake original doctoral research within the history and theory of architecture and urbanism. Starting in October 2026, the program is based at the Institute of History and Theory of Architecture (gta) and provides full funding for three years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. The fellowship encourages research across any geographical region or historical period and supports interdisciplinary methods linking architecture, art history, science, and technology. Supervised by experienced faculty members, fellows will benefit from mentoring, access to excellent research infrastructure, and participation in an engaged academic community.
