About Position/Job
University College Dublin (UCD) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PD1 or PD2) within the School of Geography. This temporary, full-time post supports the research project titled “Artificial Intelligence Supported Expert Prioritisation of Significant Effects: Streamlining Strategic Environmental Assessment Scoping and Improving Effectiveness (ScopeSEA)”. The role focuses on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), combining social geography, environmental science, ecology, and AI-supported decision-making.
The successful candidate will contribute to advancing SEA effectiveness through expert prioritisation and stakeholder engagement, aligning closely with UCD’s research strengths in environmental governance and applied geography. While the project is not EU-funded, it holds strong academic and policy relevance, particularly for environmental planning and assessment practice. The position is suitable for early-career or experienced postdoctoral researchers (PD1 or PD2), depending on prior postdoctoral experience. The post is based in Dublin, Ireland, with an emphasis on applied, interdisciplinary research methodologies.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Completed a PhD in a relevant discipline
- Knowledge of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)
- Strong data collection and analysis skills
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Postdoctoral research experience appropriate to PD1 or PD2 level
- Experience in stakeholder engagement
- Interdisciplinary research background linking geography, environment, and AI
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver research tasks for the ScopeSEA project
- Conduct data collection, analysis, and synthesis
