About Position/Job
Ghent University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Assistant in Marine Ecology, within the Department WE11 – Biology, Faculty of Sciences. This temporary, full-time position focuses on climate-driven stress responses at the base of the marine food web, using experimental approaches with trophic markers. The successful candidate will conduct at least 70% of research activities in marine ecology, assist in teaching Bachelor’s and Master’s courses on experimental marine ecology, and mentor Master’s and doctoral students in the field. Ideal candidates have experience in experimental marine ecology, stress responses, lipidomics, statistical analysis in R, and laboratory or field experiments. This position offers a one-year appointment with opportunities to contribute to impactful ecological research, student mentorship, and advanced experimental studies in marine science.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in Biology, Marine Sciences, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Bioscience Engineering, or relevant field
- Research experience in marine ecology, experimental approaches, and/or stress response studies
- Experience in statistical analysis of ecological data (R)
- Demonstrated record of scientific publications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience mentoring students at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, or doctoral level
- Experience with experimental laboratory and field research
- Strong record of peer-reviewed publications in international journals
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on climate-driven stress responses in marine organisms
- Assist in teaching courses on Experimental Marine Ecology
- Mentor Master’s students in exercises, work placements, and dissertations
- Mentor doctoral students in marine ecology research
- Contribute to publications and the dissemination of research findings
