About Position/Job
AMS Consultancy, a leading commercial archaeology company in Ireland, is seeking a full-time Osteoarchaeologist to join its expanding Post-Excavation (PX) Department in Kilrush, Co. Clare. This 6-month contract with potential extension offers a hands-on opportunity to work with articulated and disarticulated human skeletal remains, including cremated remains, and contribute to the production of specialist post-excavation reports. The successful candidate will engage in archaeological fieldwork, on-site recording, and collaborative research, supporting the PX team in delivering high-quality post-excavation programmes. This role is ideal for professionals with a postgraduate degree in archaeology or osteoarchaeology, experience in commercial fieldwork, and excellent organisational and IT skills. The position allows exposure to both practical excavation methodologies and analytical post-excavation processes, helping develop expertise in osteoarchaeology within a leading Irish heritage organisation.

Research Area
- Analysis of articulated human skeletal remains
- Analysis of disarticulated human skeletal remains
- Analysis of cremated human remains
- Post-excavation report production
- Archaeological fieldwork and on-site recording
- Specialist dissemination of osteoarchaeological results
Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree in archaeology or osteoarchaeology
- Experience in commercial archaeological fieldwork
- Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel)
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Full Irish driving licence
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience delivering osteoarchaeological reports
- Experience with cremated human remains analysis
- Experience in excavation and recording of human skeletal remains
- Mentoring or supervising junior osteoarchaeologists
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse articulated and disarticulated human skeletal remains
- Analyse cremated human remains
- Produce specialist post-excavation reports
- Support PX team in delivering the post-excavation programme
- Maintain PX facilities and ensure proper handling of assemblages
- Excavate and record human skeletal remains on-site
- Maintain communication with PX Project Supervisor and Manager
