Flinders University invites applications for an ARC Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Archaeology at its Bedford Park campus in Australia. This fully funded four-year position focuses on cultural heritage research within the resources sector. The role combines archaeological research, field investigations, and collaboration with industry and Indigenous partners to support evidence-based cultural heritage management.

The successful candidate will join the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Archaeology in the Resources Sector. The Centre examines how mining activities affect archaeological sites and culturally significant places. The researcher will carry out research in archaeology, cultural heritage management, archaeological fieldwork, mining archaeology, and Indigenous heritage. The role also supports practical approaches to protecting cultural heritage in active resource environments.

Building upon this research focus, the postdoctoral researcher will lead field investigations, publish research in peer-reviewed journals, present findings at academic conferences, and work with interdisciplinary research teams. The researcher will also collaborate with Traditional Owners, industry partners, and postgraduate researchers to strengthen research capacity and support responsible cultural heritage assessment across a range of archaeological landscapes.

In addition, the position offers opportunities to build academic partnerships, supervise student research, and take part in regional, interstate, and international fieldwork. Eligibility / Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • PhD in Archaeology or a closely related discipline.
  • Evidence of high-quality peer-reviewed research publications.
  • Experience presenting research at academic conferences.
  • Demonstrated interest in industry-engaged archaeological research.
  • Ability to contribute effectively within interdisciplinary research projects.
  • Strong communication and collaborative working skills.
  • Capacity to undertake extended fieldwork in remote locations.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is highly regarded.
  • Understanding of Indigenous data sovereignty principles is desirable.

Key Responsibilities
