Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

PhD with a strong academic record
Minimum 2 peer-reviewed journal publications (published or accepted) from PhD research
PhD viva-voce within 5 years of the application deadline
Maximum age: 35 years (as on 5 August 2025); relaxation as per Government of India norms
Both Indian and foreign nationals may apply
Applicants must select up to 3 preferred faculty mentors and submit one detailed research proposal

Preferred Qualifications:

Evidence of independent research potential
Teaching or academic assistance experience
International research exposure (desirable)

Not Eligible:

Candidates who obtained their PhD from IIT Guwahati
Applicants beyond 5 years of PhD completion (except permitted age relaxation categories)

Fellowship / Job Benefits

Monthly stipend: ₹60,000 + 18% HRA (1st year), with ₹5,000 increment in 2nd year
Contingency grant: ₹50,000 per annum (pro-rata basis)
Leave entitlements: 24 days of ordinary leave, 15 days of special casual leave for conferences
Maternity/Paternity leave: 180/15 days (once during fellowship)
Medical benefits: OPD facility for self, spouse, and 2 children at IIT Guwahati Dispensary
On-campus accommodation: May be provided, subject to availability
Professional development: Limited teaching/research mentorship responsibilities (8 hours/week)

Key Responsibilities

Conduct advanced research in collaboration with selected mentor(s)
Participate in departmental academic activities (tutorials, labs, workshops)
Submit bi-annual performance reports for fellowship continuation
Produce high-quality publications and contribute to the research ecosystem of IIT Guwahati
