About the Position
The University of Chicago’s McKeon Center invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (Instructor rank) specialising in the pedagogy and philosophical method of Richard P. McKeon. This is a three-year, full-time, non-renewable and non-tenure track role that combines original research with teaching responsibilities. Supervised by Professor Joel Isaac, the postdoc will lead archival research in the Richard McKeon papers, develop a comprehensive pedagogical guide, and design undergraduate courses that bring McKeon’s pluralist method into the classroom. Based in Illinois, USA, this role offers a unique opportunity to advance scholarship in the history of ideas, philosophy, and liberal arts pedagogy while contributing to the Center’s mission of reanimating McKeon’s intellectual legacy.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant discipline (completed at least 1 year before appointment)
- Strong research, writing, and teaching skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with archival research
- Background in philosophy, history of ideas, or liberal arts teaching
- Interest in interdisciplinary and text-based pedagogy
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct original research in the Richard McKeon archive at the Regenstein Library
- Develop a pedagogical guide informed by McKeon’s method
- Design and teach two undergraduate courses per year
- Contribute to the Center’s mission through events, conferences, or seminars
