The University of Graz is offering a Project Assistant (doctoral candidate) position in Cultural Anthropology as part of the research project ‘nice – micro-interventions for a gender-responsive #city’*. Based in Graz, Austria, this role provides a unique opportunity to pursue a PhD while contributing to a collaborative, interdisciplinary project examining urban environments through the lens of gender studies, digital ethnography, and visual anthropology. The position is supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Judith Laister and hosted by the Department of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology. The 15-month part-time position includes participation in academic workshops, public engagement, and publication efforts. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Completed Master’s degree or diploma in Cultural Anthropology, Gender Studies, Digital Humanities, or related field
- Strong written and spoken German and English (CEFR C1 level)
- Dissertation proposal aligned with the project’s theme
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with digital ethnography or multimodal research
- Interest in gender, urban, and media-related anthropology
- Teamworking, communication, and administrative skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research for the ‘nice’ project and related PhD dissertation
- Participate in workshops, conferences, and public relations activities
- Assist with third-party funding proposals
- Engage in publication planning and data management
- Support organisational and administrative tasks
