About the Position
The University of Hertfordshire invites applications for the position of Research Fellow in Climate Science within the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS). This is a fixed-term, full-time position for one year based at the College Lane Campus, Hatfield, with flexible remote working options. Supervised by Professor Ranjeet S. Sokhi, the successful candidate will join an international research team working on the Horizon Europe FOCI project, exploring non-CO₂ radiative forcers, atmospheric composition, and climate interactions. The role offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge studies on weather, air quality, and health impacts, supporting interdisciplinary collaborations and data-driven climate modelling to improve predictive understanding of the Earth’s system.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. Climate Science, Atmospheric Physics, Environmental Science).
- Strong experience with regional climate models (e.g. WRF-CMAQ or similar).
- Proficiency in Fortran and Python programming on Unix/Linux platforms.
- Proven experience in data analysis, visualisation, and model validation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in multi-institutional research projects.
- Knowledge of SMOKE, MEGAN, or other atmospheric input data software.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and presentation skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct climate and atmospheric simulations using high-resolution models.
- Process, analyse, and interpret model data and observational datasets.
- Collaborate on research publications, reports, and funding proposals.
- Maintain and optimise software codes on the university’s high-performance cluster.
- Participate in scientific conferences, workshops, and collaborative initiatives.
