Eligibility / Qualifications

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a PhD in Archaeology or a related field
  • Have an academic title such as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor in archaeology or a similar discipline, or meet the requirements for university teaching accreditation (habilitation)
  • If holding a qualification from another institution, ensure it can be recognised by the University of Ljubljana
  • Provide the required documents to show eligibility for an academic appointment if applying through the habilitation process
  • Have Slovene language skills at B2 level, or achieve this level within three years of starting the job
  • Demonstrate good communication, organisational, and innovative skills, with the ability to manage work independently.

Desirable Additional Competences

  • Teaching and research experience in Palaeolithic and Mesolithic archaeology
  • Experience in archaeological fieldwork and post-fieldwork activities
  • Valid Class B driving licence
  • Ability to lead academic groups and actively engage with students

  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Experience in management and participation in higher education committees

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and regularly update archaeology syllabi and academic programmes
  • Organise and coordinate course activities in accordance with curriculum requirements
  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and teaching activities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Manage examinations, assessments, and student evaluations
  • Supervise student theses and academic research work
  • Conduct scientific research and contribute to the development of archaeological theories and methodologies
