Predoctoral Researcher in Palaeolithic Archaeology and Lithic Technology – University of Alcalá (UAH), Spain

The University of Alcalá (Universidad de Alcalá, UAH), Spain, is offering a full-time predoctoral researcher position (R1)in archaeology within the MULTIPALEOIBERIA project. This role is funded under the Horizon Europe – ERC framework (Reference: ERC-2018-STG-805478) and focuses on population dynamics and cultural adaptations of the last Neandertals and early modern humans in inland Iberia.

The position is based at the Department of History and Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy and Letters in Alcalá de Henares. The research will concentrate on Solutrean lithic assemblages from the archaeological site of Peña Capón (Muriel, Guadalajara), contributing to Upper Palaeolithic studies in inland Iberia.

The appointed researcher will carry out technological and typological analysis of lithic materials, participate in archaeological fieldwork and excavation activities, and contribute to the scientific interpretation of archaeological evidence. The role also includes the preparation of academic publications and presentations at scientific conferences.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification and demonstrate a good level of English and Spanish. The contract runs full-time for one year, from 9 June 2026 to 8 June 2027, offering a funded ERC research position in Spain within a specialised archaeology research setting.
